CD Release Party for ‘Northwest Tugboat Tales’

Sunday, Aug 29, 3:00-6:30 pm
At the CD release party, you will be able to meet some of the musicians and hear some of the songs performed live. Free snacks and beverages, and a chance to tour the historic Arthur Foss.
Performing will be The Whateverly Brothers, Watch the Sky, Chris Roe, Cannery Row, Jon Pfaff & Mary Garvey, and probably several others. Dejah Leger will be there, as will Matthew Moeller. Tugboat Bromberg will be there, and will bring copies of his brand new CD, "Here There Be Pirates". See the Tugboat

After the performances, there will be a chantey sing/jam session until around 6:30 pm.
It's predicted to be partly sunny on Sunday afternoon, with no rain, but if we get any sprinkles we will have canopies up for both performers and audience so you will stay dry. (Except for your choice of free beverages.) The event is for all ages in a family atmosphere, but there will be adult beverages available for those that want them, and of course soft drinks and water.

Three performers from the Northwest Tugboat Tales CD (Jon Pfaff, Mary Garvey, Chris Roe) were featured on KUOW's Weekday show. You can listen to the podcast here. (Click on download in the center column.) The radio show also included Jim Cole, past president of Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society; Rick Shrewsbury, the co-owner of Western Towboat Co., and excerpts of several songs from the CD.
May 29, 2010 Tugboat Show at Folklife
Over a hundred people attended the Tugboat Show at the Northwest Folklife Festival, which included some of the performers and songs from the Northwest Tugboat Tales CD.
An album release concert/party is still to come. Watch this news page for an announcement of the date and time.
May 28, 2010 Northwest Tugboat Tales CD
Maritime Folknet has produced its first CD,
Northwest Tugboat Tales, a compilation of 17 songs by various performers. Some of the songs were written and recorded especially for this CD. We are very excited about the quality of the music.
The CD will be available for sale for the first time at the Folklife Store at the Northwest Folklife Festival, May 28 - May 31.

May 26, 2010 Support the Historic Collins Building
Maritime Folknet supports Historic Everett and the Everett Maritime Museum in their quest to redevelop the historic Collins Building on the Everett Waterfront into a Farmer's Market and Maritime Museum. We are especially interested in the possibility of including a small performance space that could be used for maritime concerts, fisher poet gatherings, and other cultural events.

The Collins Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic Everett has been a leader in the battle to prevent the demolition of this historic building.

On June 5th, the Port of Everett will hold a public meeting to discuss the possibility of redeveloping the Collins Building. Public support and input is needed. Please send letters or attend the meeting, or both.

Sadly, the Port of Everett chose to demolish the Collins Building rather than renovate it for a maritime museum. We hope that the Everett Maritime Museum will be successful in finding a space to create a museum.
